Leicester's first Giving Day is scheduled for the 18th November, and "plans are well under way to showcase business and charity collaboration" says Embark's Directors, Chris Shaw and Stacey Wragg.

Leicester Giving Day invites businesses in Leicester and Leicestershire to actively engage with local charities and their local communities, to create partnerships through the offer of treasure, talent or time. It also aims to shine a spotlight on the important work of charities and community organisations in the city and county.

The inaugural Leicester Giving Day is an integral part of the Leicester Business Festival. The programme is sponsored by the University of Leicester and AKN Build Ltd and is supported by Cross Productions, Leicester City Council, Voluntary Action Leicestershire and Cymer Marketing.

There are four parts to Leicester Giving Day:

1. Leicester Giving Day
2. Community Impact Fund
3. Leicester Social Responsibility Awards
4. The Leicester Giving Day Gala

The concept behind Leicester Giving Day is to encourage businesses in Leicester and Leicestershire to actively engage with local charities and local community organisations, and to create partnerships through the offer of treasure, talent or time.

The Day will also spotlight the important work of local groups in the city and county via four community hubs that will run activities and showcase events. The hubs will be hosted by St Martin’s House Conference Centre, Highcross, The Zinthiya Trust and Soft Touch Arts. In the evening there will be a Giving Day Gala where the winners of the Community Impact Programme and the Leicester Social Responsibility Awards will be announced.

"There are already 60+ organisations involved" said Chris Shaw, "not a bad start for our first year. We already have a steady foow of applications to the Community Impact Programme and nominations are coming in for the Social Responsibility Awards."
